Batsheva - The Young Ensemble
As part of the France - Israel 2018 season
Batsheva – The Young Ensemble, the other aspect of the company led by Ohad Naharin, banks on youth: dancers and public. Proof with this new version of Decadance, one of Mr Gaga’s greatest successes.
Created in 1990 when Ohad Naharin took over the artistic direction of the Batsheva Dance Company, Batsheva – The Young Ensemble’s goal was to place young dancers at the (large) heart of dance, whilst developing an approach towards the younger public. Each year, hundreds of soloists worldwide participate in the auditions to integrate the Young Ensemble. Decadance, presented at Chaillot in 2013 for the “Sur les frontières” festival, has today become Décalé, a young public version for 16 to 18 dancers, brought together for 50 minutes of choreographic vibrations. For the choreographer, the idea is to make his repertoire a playground, whilst also going beyond his familiar limits. With music by Vivaldi, The Beach Boys, Israeli folk or Yma Sumac, this Décalé offers to our eyes an explosiveness of gesture and shared emotions. This dance, fuelled by Ohad Naharin’s Gaga technique, should put Chaillot in a trance. The Batsheva effect to be experienced as a family.
