On the 10th of December 1948, in the theatre of the Palais de Chaillot, 48 nations came together to sign the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. 30 articles to proclaim the same faith in the dignity and in the value of the human person. 70 years later, in this same theatre, artists have organised a wake for the Declaration, so that its flame may continue to produce light.
In the UN’s charter, its code name – resolution 217 (III) A – is as abstract as its importance is capital for the democracy and the fulfilment of men, women and societies. The 70th anniversary of its signature is the occasion to reassert values that are still often contested by bringing together French and foreign artists from different fields of creation. Each of them has been invited to seize these themes in performative gestures creating an anniversary evening that will be orchestrated by the stage director Anne-Laure Liégois. A Wake of Humanity, that will be a great party written with their gestures, words, laughs and silences…
WITH Isabelle Adjani, Taigue Ahmed, Marcia Barcellos, Fabrice Bwabulamutima, Carolyn Carlson, Francois Chaignaud, Denis Guénoun, Alonzo King, Anne-Laure Liégeois, Phia Ménard, Dominique Mercy (Tanztheater Wuppertal, Pina Bausch), Mathilde Monnier, Wajdi Mouawad, Ohad Naharin, Angelin Preljocaj, Lia Rodrigues, Eric Ruf, Kirill Serebrennikov… (ON GOING)
