VR_I
This show is presented with the Centre Culturel Suisse as part of their “offsite” programming
VR_I is a work by Swiss choreographer Gilles Jobin that delightfully blends new technology, dance and poetry, letting audiences share and interact with other participants – real or virtual – in one of the first virtual reality experiences.
Choreographer Gilles Jobin likes to expose dance to new technology. His new work VR_I originated from a collaboration with the foundation Artanim, which specializes in movement capture technology. Together they let us experience dance in a virtual and immersive reality. In groups of five, spectators equipped with a headset and a laptop roam around in a virtual space, successively hurled into a desert stretching away, a contemporary loft, and a cityscape. Spectators are duplicated in the guise of avatars and can interact with their teammates as virtual dancers – now gigantic now miniature –walk around them.
A memorable sensory experience which won the innovation award and the public award for best performance at the 2017 Festival du nouveau cinema in Montreal, and was selected for the 2018 Sundance Film Festival. Maxime Fleuriot
